Figuring out this year's Best XI was definitely not an easy task. There were some outstanding performances in the World Cup by players who did not necessarily have great seasons with their clubs, and there are those who had unbelievable seasons with their clubs and just ran out of gas for the World Cup or were just not surrounded by as much talent as they are used to. With that said, here is our Best XI for 2010:
Goalkeeper: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan/Brazil)
Defenders: Carles Puyol (Barcelona/Spain), Philip Lahm (Bayern Munich/Germany), Maicon (Inter Milan/Brazil)
Midfielders: Lionel Messi (Barcelona/Argentina), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich/Germany), Xavi (Barcelona/Spain), Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan/Holland), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona/Spain)
Forwards: Didier Drogba (Chelsea/Ivory Coast), Diego Forlan (Atletico Madrid/Uruguay)
I'm sure you have disagreements, so feel free to comment with your Best XI of the Year.
Happy Holidays from The Soccer Tribune!
It's tough to keep off villa, thomas mueller, ronaldo (even though he won nothing), ozil (too many great midfielders now...but, for the most part, that top 11 is spot on.
